California Recognizes 2025 Child Support Awareness Month
RANCHO CORDOVA, CA – In California and across the country, August is recognized as Child Support Awareness Month. This year, we acknowledge the modernization and positive changes made under the Newsom administration and across the country, including more legislative action to improve the child support program than in the past five decades combined.
Child support services remain free for the paying parent, and the annual fee for recipients makes up just a fraction of what they receive and never totals more than $35. The calculations to determine child support amounts have been revised for the first time in 60 years, creating more reasonable orders that parents can afford to pay. Parents released from incarceration now also have more time to establish themselves before resuming payments. In addition, more money than ever before is being passed through to parents formerly on cash aid and outdated enforcement actions have been updated or revoked.
“California Child Support Services welcomes the new state laws that are making our program more equitable for California’s families,” said Kristen Erickson-Donadee, the Director of Child Support Services. “Our wide range of services are completely free for those paying child support, and remain at little to no cost for support recipients.”
The goal of the child support program is to help Californians co-parenting their children to thrive and avoid the expense and hassles that come with attorneys and private companies.
